New Horizons for Seniors living with Epilepsy

I feel out of control when I have a seizure.
Epilepsy has taken the control of my life away from me.

I am a walking zombie with all of these medications.
I started having seizures in my 60s
and I could not believe it.
I didn't know anybody in their 60s who had epilepsy.

I was afraid
and ashamed to go out of the house
when I started having seizures.

Many seniors with epilepsy
feel hopeless,
misunderstood,
over-medicated
and lonely.

It can be a very upsetting experience
to be newly-diagnosed with epilepsy as a senior.

For others who have lived with epilepsy all their lives,
new challenges and concerns present themselves
in the senior years.

The goal of the New Horizons Initiative is
to empower seniors living with epilepsy
through providing knowledge and support.
