Employment & Training Programs Ontario Disability Support ProgramThere are 13 ODSP offices throughout Ontario.
The ODSP has a component called Employment Supports which recognizes that many people with disabilities can and do want to work.
What type of help is offered?
- Development of an employment plan
- Employment preparation and training
- Technical aids ranging from mobility devices and reading aids to adapted computers, as well as training to use them
- Interpreter, reader, note taker, and intervening services
- Travel, route, and orientation training
- Job placement support
- Job coaching and help with job searches
- On-the-job training
- Transportation assistance while you are training for a job
Eligibility for ODSP Income Support
Applicants must be:- willing and able to prepare for, accept and maintain competitive employment;
- a resident of Ontario;
- able to work in Canada;
- over 16 years of age;
and must have a physical or mental impairment which is:- continuous or recurrent;
- lasting 1 year or more;
- a barrier to employment;
- verified by a qualified professional.
Who is Not Eligible?
Recipients of: - Ontario Works
- CPP-D
- Employment Insurance
- WCB or WSIB
- Insurance Act Benefit (after 21 June 1990)
- Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program (Ministry of Health)
- An insurance policy

Job Finding Club
This program is for those who are currently receiving Employment Insurance or who have been receiving Unemployment Insurance in the past 3-5 years. Clients will find a supportive environment and will be able to take advantage of the emerging opportunities of the 21st Century.

- Résumé
- Personal tutoring in cold call methods
- Access to classified and computerized job lists
- Access to a large employer data base

Supported Employment
The supported employment program assists people who require additional supports to find and maintain work. This program focuses on job interests, motivation to work, and adaptations that integrate the client into the workplace and community. Job coaches are available to assist in identifying the job skill, special adaptations and other supports to maintain a job.

There are more than 20 offices throughout Ontario.
Apprenticeship Program
An apprenticeship is a formal agreement between a person who wants to learn a skilled trade, an employer who needs a skilled worker and the Government of Ontario.
The apprenticeship programs regulated by the Government of Ontario fall into four categories:- construction
- industrial
- motive power
- the service industries.
Eligibility- Participants must have an Ontario employer.
- Participants must be at least 16 years old.
- Most trades require a minimum of a Grade 10 education.
- Apprentices are 90% on the job training with 10% in-school component and may last from 2-5 years.
