New Rail Accessibility Code
You probably know already that the Canadian Transportation Agency introduced a new code of practice concerning aircraft accessibility on 1 January 1997. It has now turned its attention to rail transportation.
The draft code is in two parts. Part 1 deals with issues to make rail cars more accessible to persons with disabilities. Part 2 deals with services "that should be provided so that passengers with disabilities may expect to travel by rail with a reliable and consistent level of service."
Contact the provincial office of Epilepsy Ontario if you want a copy of the draft code for examination and discussion. Hélène Nadeau, the Acting Director of the Accessible Transportation Directorate, invites our comments.
