The Care Call bed-leaving alarm and call button system can be used for many different situations and can be purchased as a kit or as individual components.

The Care Call detection unit fits under the leg of most beds and detects the change in weight as someone leaves the mattress, sending a warning signal to an alarm beacon.

A Call button is also available to enable the user to summon help directly.

The system is easy to install at home, nursing homes and hospitals. It may also be used with existing nurse-call circuits with central alarm facilities. It is simple to use and adjusts to most beds or chairs. It is operated by batteries or main power supply, and the distance between the detection unit and the alarm beacon can be extended with cables or through radio relay.

The Care Call system contains five components:
  • weight sensor - an adjustable weight sensor which is placed under a leg of the bed or chair
  • alarm beacon - the portable, battery powered beacon is connected to the weight sensor, used anywhere in the house with an option of either light or buzzer signal
  • call button - a simple device for a person needing to call for assistance
  • five-metre extension lead (longer also available)
  • transformer - enables the alarm beacon to be powered by a wall outlet instead of batteries (optional).

The system is suitable for a variety of situations:
  • to give relatives and companions peace of mind when caring for a confused person who is sleeping or resting in another room
  • for nursing staff in the homecare environment
  • for nursing care in special homes and hospitals
  • to awaken sleep walkers by having the alarm in the same room
  • to add more facilities to an existing nurse call system
  • for parents to be aware when a child is no longer in bed.
