Every citizen living in Ontario is covered by OHIP which pays for most medical costs, including most doctor appointments and hospital stays. To be eligible, you must reside in Ontario. Remember: if you have a health card with an expiry date on it, you must renew it at the local Ministry of Health office before that date.
This covers prescription drug costs for medications in the Formulary (MOH list of approved drugs). To be eligible, you must meet 1 of the following criteria: at least 65 years of age, resident in a long term care facility, resident in a home for special care, recipient of Trillium Drug Program benefits or social assistance benefits.
This program helps to cover the cost of prescription drugs. If the applicant spends a certain amount of money on prescription drugs a year, s/he may be eligible for Ontario Drug Benefits. It is based on the number of people in the applicant's family and the family's net income. Before applying for the Trillium Drug Program you must have an Ontario health card.
